Edible vegetable garden design
From compact wasted area to a superb paved outdoor area complete with vege garden design.
Maximising the sun was a key element of the brief to Pierce Landscaping by Helen and Tony Chadwick of Half Moon Bay. The existing raised back yard area was very dated with a big old-style rotary clothesline, a sparse lawn area and a row of unsightly wattles on the boundary at the rear of the section. With only one set of stairs, it also had limited access options and was generally unappealing - "it was a sunny area going to waste"!
The Chadwicks had a pretty clear idea of what they wanted to achieve and Pierce Landscaping's design team expanded those concepts into an imaginative plan that would create a whole new outdoor living area. They were also adamant about having us design a veggie garden for them.
As with many landscape projects, access was challenging, particularly for excavation. New block walls, trellis fencing, a raised planter, new garden and large paved areas meant that although the job was reasonably compact, there was a significant amount of work to be done. This was managed effectively through a detailed work plan that could be implemented in stages and would minimise the disruption and mess to the outside area.
The end result created what the Chadwicks described as a "superb paved outdoor area for our own use or for entertaining and the most attractive edible garden. All in all we are very impressed with the translation of our concept into a very workable plan and with the professionalism of the team and with the fact that it was completed to the agreed price."

What the customer said about their experience...
We first became aware of Pierce Landscaping when we saw work they had done. The standard of workmanship and the creative styling really impressed us and encouraged us to contact the company.
We started with a raised back yard with a few fruit trees, a big old style rotary clothesline, an awful lawn area and a row of unsightly wattles on the boundary to the rear. Coupled with the general unattractiveness of the area was the complication that it was only accessible via one set of steps.
"It was a sunny area going to waste".
We had a concept in mind and presented this for the company's view and refinement.
Within a few days they came back to us with a suggested plan which rounded off our own thinking very well.
The outcome has been a superb paved outdoor area for our own use or for entertaining. New additional steps provide easy access to what is now the most attractive edible garden with complimentary flowering plants, the reinstated Fruit Trees, a row of Olive Trees on the boundary and a paved area underneath a new fold down clothesline.
All in all we are very impressed with the translation of our concept into a very workable plan, with the professionalism of the team who worked on the project and with the fact that is was completed to the agreed price.
