A landscaping project entitled 'Country Manor'

A large rambling garden with good bones but needing some refinement and detail was the order of the day for this large suburban property with its grand house and expansive outlook.

The client was looking for the services of landscape gardeners to completely transform their property into something they always dreamt of.

It was important to the client that the garden incorporated an old family heirloom , the very classic concrete birdbath with mosaic interior, and so it was manoeuvred carefully into position, upon threat of death should damage occur, as the centrepiece in the village stone paved circle created in a prominent position.

Wide access, steps using genuine old railway sleepers and the clients existing old pavers were created down the side of the house to link the living area of the house to the expanse of lawn and gardens at the front.

The old brick planter was constructed to mirror the shape of the birdbath feature and gives some shape and detail to a previously neglected part of the garden. Classic grouped port wine magnolia planting completes the picture for this part of the garden.

A nicely curved flat paved area links the garden to an old existing and slightly worse for wear timber pergola with a wooden bench underneath to retreat from the ravages of a hot summers day, and surrounded by the shade of newly invigorated woodland planting, in and around some of the more established old trees in the garden.

What the customer said about their experience...

Our brief to the landscaping was that our gardens were to be kept with the existing style, have an aged look about them and be low maintenance as the property is on 1/2 an acre.

We had two large areas of work to be done:

Our biggest area at the back of the house was a boundary of Invasive Bamboo that needed to be contained (as it bordered ours and our neighbours property), before we could begin to landscape and plant. The area where this was situated was not easily accessible and needed gates to be dismantled, required working around a new house addition and sloping ground.

The landscaping in this area was to extend our back garden, contain the bamboo and have four step-down levels along the side of the house leading to our clothes line and the rest of the garden. In this area we wanted to retain a lot of the existing gardens and make the new area look like it had been aged liked the rest by using existing cobblestones, bringing in sleepers, pebbles and large pavers.

Our second area was large rambling grass, with trees and shrubs that needed a revamp. The new landscaping again was to keep with the old bungalow-house feel. Removal of the shrubs across the front of the house, putting in a low retainer wall, incorporating a 4 meter diameter paved circle, retaining the old existing birdbath to centre in the paved circle. Also putting in 50 meters of curved paved mowing borders to define the tree lined gardens.

Our end result was better than what we had hoped for. Pierce Landscape Co. worked under difficult weather conditions at the time; working with the clay, mud and water and moving everything in by wheel barrows they certainly went the extra mile - plus. They were very efficient, good communication skills kept us informed on the progress. The staff were very pleasant, they kept their work areas clean and tidy on a daily basis and kept the disruption to home-life to a minimum as well as our neighbours on a shared drive. We cannot fault the quality of their work and standards we cannot speak more highly of the work Pierce Landscape Co. have done to complete our Home and property. Our gardens look like they have stepped out of a House and Garden magazine. Our outdoor areas both from the family room and the front of the house provide a wonderful family outdoor entertaining and living environment.
