Tropical garden oasis
A landscapers dream? The blank canvas! This compact garden area had not been developed since the house was completed in 1998. The client’s brief was to create an outdoor entertaining area in a verdant, tropical garden environment.
Before buying a garden water feature, our team and the client discussed what home water features would best be suited to the property's area, such as solar powered water features.
The need to create space and yet intimacy was high on the priority list so careful use had to be made of existing space. A full drainage plan had to be incorporated as well as irrigation throughout the garden areas. Lighting, curbing, paving, a decorative pool and water feature and a small but functional lawn completed the total plan.
Limited access to the site meant that much of the grunt work had to be completed by hand, at all times with consideration to the home owners and their neighbours as construction took place. The project was completed in just three weeks, and eighteen months later the client describes the results as '“well beyond our expectations".

We purchased this home in August 2002 having moved from an apartment in the city.
The home was built in 1998 and there was no back garden or courtyard to speak of other than four olive trees around the perimeter.
It was always our intention to have an outdoor entertaining area and a tropical garden. Consequently everything in the yard/garden had to go (other than the olives which we jointly agreed would fit in with the new design).
We checked the yellow pages and contacted three landscape companies with a view to a site inspection, providing some ideas and subsequently quoting for a full backyard/courtyard development.
We chose Pierce Landscape Co Ltd for the following reasons;
1. The designer had an empathy with our requirements, drew a sketch plan outlining his ideas on his first visit to the property and then quoted on the ideas presented having drawn the plan to scale.
2. They were able to project-manage the job from start to finish. (all the varied trades that needed to be involved.) We had no worries about arranging "subbies"
3. The quote was within range of other quotes.
There were some changes made by us and the final plan was accepted as was the quote.
There were some conditions to the acceptance of the contract.
1. We required the job to be completed within 21 days
2. We needed the section to be properly drained. There were wet areas where water was not escaping.
3. Total irrigation, lighting, curbing, paving, decorative pool and water feature and a small but functional lawn.
The job was completed satisfactorily and eighteen months later the result is well beyond our expectation.
